Back in May, Microsoft announced the Surface Hub 2, the successor to its original collaborative PC for teams. The device features much slimmer bezels and a 50.5-inch 4K display. As the form factor has changed, businesses might be wondering what they should do when they"ve built around the form factor of the original model.
That"s where the Surface Hub 2S comes in. The Hub 2S is designed to provide the same experience as the first Surface Hub, but in a "lighter, thinner, and more vibrant design". Businesses will be able to continue to use Skype for Business, or switch to Microsoft Teams.
The Surface Hub 2S is slated to arrive in the second half of 2019, but in 2020, the Surface Hub 2X will arrive. The Hub 2X is more along the lines of what was announced earlier this year, with support for tiling and rotating.
The Surface Hub 2S and the Hub 2X aren"t actually different machines. They"re both the Surface Hub 2, but the machine has removable processor module. Your business can buy a Surface Hub 2S in 2019, and then buy the module for the 2X in 2020 for a simple upgrade. Microsoft wasn"t clear if there will be other modules going forward.
There"s still quite a bit that Microsoft hasn"t told us about Surface Hub 2, but we should learn more soon.
