Microsoft today announced a new SKU of Windows 10 that"s specifically tailored for the Chinese government, which is aptly called Windows 10 China Government Edition. The first three government customers to use it will be China Customs, the City of Shanghai, and Westone Information Technology.
The new version of the OS will allow the country to use its own encryption, and it can also manage its own Windows updates. As you might have guessed, telemetry is turned off as well.
Windows 10 China Government Edition is based on Enterprise Edition, which "already includes many of the security, identity, deployment, and manageability features governments and enterprises need." The Chinese government will be able to remove features that its employees don"t use, such as OneDrive.
Microsoft says that Lenovo will be among its first OEM partners to begin shipping PCs that have the new version of the OS installed on its devices; however, the company did not state exactly when these PCs will begin shipping.
