Microsoft announces Xbox Live TV

Microsoft has now released an announcement on Major Nelson"s blog about Xbox Live TV. According to the Major Nelson blog, 40 providers are coming to Xbox Live TV. These include Comcast, Verizon FIOS, Bravo, HBO GO, and Syfy in the United States. In the UK, additional providers include BBC TV and Radio. Rogers on Demand in Canada, Telefónica in Spain, Televisa in Mexico, ZDF (Germany), and MediaSet (Italy) will be rolling out as well. 20 countries will be a part of the rollout this holiday season.

Of course, there are some existing providers that have already rolled out. AT&T, BSkyB, Canal+ (France), ESPN (US), Foxtel (Australia), and Hulu Plus are some of the services already provided. According to the TechNet blog, Xbox Live TV will allow you to use the Xbox 360 as a set-top box. In other words, the Xbox 360 will become a true entertainment and media consumption device.

Microsoft is certainly stepping up the game for its own console. Other console makers might follow, but for now, it looks like Microsoft has the edge, even if they are not exactly letting you cut the cable bill with the new service. It appears that this fits in with their "three screens" vision. Stay tuned and we will keep you informed as to when more information comes out.
