Microsoft has been working with the state of Illinois to launch a new cloud-based criminal justice information system that is designed to replace a massive mainframe system made during the 1980s. The new system, called Offender-360, was announced today.
Microsoft"s press release said that the state government of Illinois looked at 20 different proposals to update its criminal justice information system which processes 49,000 inmates and 28,000 parolees. One of those unnamed plans, it would have cost the state $100 million to put into place. In the end, the state choose a solution that used Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online. Microsoft added:
With guidance from Tribridge, 2012 Microsoft Dynamics State and Local Government Partner of the Year, the Illinois DOC was able to configure, develop and deploy the robust and flexible architecture of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online through trained and certified union members, significantly reducing the Offender-360 solution cost and deployment timeframe. The use of union workers helped Illinois avoid hiring contractors, gave union employees advancement opportunities and drove revenue back to the state by using an Illinois-based union workforce.
The new Offender-360 system will be slowly rolled out over the next several months, with the plan to have it serve 5,500 users by the summer of 2013.
