Microsoft Authenticator coming to Windows phones "later this week"

On Monday, Microsoft released its Authenticator app for iOS and Android. When it announced the app back in July, however, the company has promised to release it to all mobile app stores on that date.

The beta version of the app has been available on Windows 10 Mobile for some time, but the public version did not end up getting released. Microsoft today confirmed that it should be available later this week.

The firm also provided some updates on the status of the Android and iOS apps. iOS users currently can"t receive push notifications for Microsoft account sign-ins, but that feature is in beta. In fact, you can sign up for the iOS beta by emailing msauthenticator@microsoft.com (include your name and Apple ID).

Users have also requested the ability to use biometric features with the app, such as Apple"s Touch ID. This feature is on the roadmap, although the blog post did not confirm whether or not it would include Windows 10 Mobile"s biometric features, such as the iris scanner on the Lumia 950 and 950 XL.

Nevertheless, "later this week" can only be a couple days away. It"s still not clear if the app will be an update to the Azure Authenticator app, or if those using the beta app will receive it. When it"s available, we"ll keep you posted.
