Microsoft begins buying out .porn and .adult domains

Imagine you were cruising the internet and saw a URL that included "office" in it and you immediately clicked on the link without fully reading the URL. Before you catch the rest of the domain, you"re now accidentally visiting a malicious revenge porn website instead of the official Office website. If companies like Microsoft don"t move fast to buy new web domains, this could be a reality.

As a result, Microsoft is buying out multiple web domains that would usually be linked to its products and services before the general public gets a chance to buy them out. Having an office.porn website could be a bit embarrassing for a such a large company and could inadvertently end up becoming an image problem down the road.

According to CNN, celebrities such as Taylor Swift have also made moves to secure the soon-to-be-available .porn and .adult sites to avert an image crisis as well, before anyone gets a crack at buying out these domains.

On June 1, the .adult and the .sucks domains will be active and available forpurchase. The new .sucks domain will open the door for people to troll their most hated brands, as long as they"re willing to shell out $2,500 for many of the available domains. It"s entirely possible that we"d see websites like google.sucks if select companies aren"t first in line to buy these domains.
