Microsoft brings new photo editing features to OneDrive on the web

While OneDrive is Microsoft"s solution designed for cloud storage, its all-in-one nature also means that people prefer more capabilities when dealing with their files. Microsoft claims that the ability to edit photos directly in OneDrive without relying on another app was one of its most requested features, and today, new capabilities are rolling out to the service on the web.

While the feature-set for photo editing appears to be quite basic as of now, it"s better than nothing and will certainly be welcome by ardent users of the service. There are three capabilities on offer: Crop, Adjustment, and Filter.

As the name suggests, Crop allows you to either manually crop your photos or select from a set of predetermined aspect ratios. You can rotate your images as well. Adjustment enables you to modify the light and color in your photos using sliders for exposure, contrast, saturation, tint, and more. Crop and Adjustment started rolling out in June.

Finally, Filters has an assortment of well, filters, on offer which enable you to add artificial effects to your photos. If you edit any photo, you do have the option to overwrite the original or save it as a new file. You can also navigate to version history to recover a file in case you accidentally select the wrong option.

Microsoft has noted that the ability to annotate and markup photos is coming soon to OneDrive for the web too. It"s expected to arrive in late December. The company hasn"t explicitly stated that the latest feature-set is being rolled out in a staggered manner so it should be available globally right now.

Update: The text has been updated to reflect that Crop and Adjustment started rolling out to OneDrive on the web back in June.
