With less than six weeks to go before Microsoft holds its E3 2014 press event on June 9th, the company may be preparing for its Xbox related announcements at the Los Angeles video game trade show by claiming the rights to two new domain names. This week, Microsoft bought the URLs for XboxAb.com and XboxAb.net.
The purchase was first noticed by a member of the NeoGAF message board; both domain names were acquired by Microsoft on Monday. Currently, surfing to those URLs brings up a Bing search page. GameSpot asked Microsoft for comment and got their standard response to these kinds of inquiries from a spokesperson: "Microsoft often acquires various domain names as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment."
Exactly what "Ab" means in this context is still a mystery, although there is some speculation that it could stand for "Augmented Body", which suggests some kind of wearable technology. Microsoft recently filed for a number of new trademarks that were labeled as "game software" and the timing of their filings also suggests that games with those titles could be revealed as part of the company"s E3 2014 plans.
