Microsoft announced one week ago today that the RTM build of Windows 8 was officially completed. While various SKUs of Windows 8 have found their way onto the Internet via pirate sites since then, that has not stopped Microsoft from celebrating the RTM stage of its latest Windows OS.
The official Windows 8 Twitter page shows that Microsoft held an event today, most likely at its Redmond, Washington headquarters. As Microsoft"s Twitter post stated, "Little party celebrating Windows 8! Thank you testers!!"
The party seems anything but "little" judging by the image that Microsoft also uploaded to its Twitter account. It looks like lots of people have gathered outside, most with their smartphones at the ready, as a few people fire off what looks like champagne in the air.
Microsoft might be celebrating now, but the countdown has started for Windows 8 and won"t stop until the commercial launch of the OS on October 26th. In between, Microsoft will officially offer Windows 8 to its MSDN and TechNet subscribers on August 15th and Microsoft Partner Network members and existing Microsoft Software Assurance for Windows can download Windows 8 on August 16th.
Microsoft Action Pack Providers will gain official access to Windows 8 on August 20th. Finally, Volume License customers without Software Assurance will be able to buy Windows 8 on September 1st.
