Microsoft confirms removal of upgrade block previously initiated for some Alienware systems

Back in May, Microsoft announced that an upgrade block for some Alienware devices had been initiated due to these laptops displaying a black screen after they were resumed from the battery saver mode. The models affected by this issue were the Alienware 13 R3, Alienware 15 R3, Alienware 15 R4, Alienware 17 R4, and Alienware 17 R5.

Now, the same moderator who first responded to a thread regarding the matter on the support forum for Windows 10 users has updated the post to reflect that the issue has now been fixed by the company, and that the upgrade block has consequently been removed. It should be noted that this information had already been confirmed by Alienware Support in response to an inquiry made by Windows Latest regarding the matter a few days ago. However, Microsoft updated its original post on the issue only yesterday.

When owners of the aforementioned laptop models first started facing this issue, several unofficial fixes were posted by users. However, the tech giant recommended users to avoid any such workarounds, and to instead wait for an official solution by the company. The update has started rolling out to many of the users who were previously affected by the issue, as is made apparent by threads recently created on the "Alienware" subreddit.

For users who own any of the aforementioned laptops, it is not necessary to attempt to upgrade your systems manually; Windows Update will automatically notify you when the April 2018 Update is available on your device.
