Two months before Microsoft planned to hold a conference that would have given more info about its IPTV plans, the company has revealed that the conference has now been delayed. ZDNet repors that the Mediaroom IPTV Technical Conference, originally planed to be held on September 26-28 at Microsoft"s Silicon Valley based offices, will now be held sometime in early 2012. A more specific time frame was not revealed.
The delay was announced via an email to developers with Microsoft stating that it was " ... apparent that September is not the optimum time to host the conference. Postponing by a few months into 2012 will enable us to deliver a more informative and effective conference to all."
Last month at E3 2011, Microsoft announced plans to offer live television service to Xbox 360 owners. While the service was announced as going live sometime this fall, Microsoft has yet to reveal much about their plans for Xbox Live TV. However, ZDNet article today said that it has learned of something that is called Project Orapa, which it claims via unnamed sources that it will be "a mash-up between Mediaroom, Microsoft’s IPTV service, and Xbox Live."
It added that Project Orapa would give Xbox 360 owners access to features like "video-on-demand, last-channel playing, electronic-programming guide, etc., in addition to the actual content." When asked about Project Orapa, Microsoft gave its usual answer to rumors, saying, "We don’t comment on rumors or speculation." Microsoft would also not reveal any more info about its plans for bringing Llve TV to the Xbox 360.
