After promising users at E3 this year that the revamped Xbox Avatars would finally be making an appearance this fall, Microsoft has backed off, now saying that the popular animated icons won"t be showing up until 2018.
In response to a fan inquiry, Xbox VP Mike Ybarra tweeted that the avatars will most likely appear sometime early next year, citing a need to "make them great."
Most likely early next year. Working to make them great. Patience will pay off. https://t.co/iqn4Y4FNPu

Microsoft"s Phil Spencer had said last year that new avatars would be coming, with Ybarra following that up the next day with a tweet of some new designs, including a wheelchair-bound avatar.
Xbox One users are probably feeling a bit depressed right about now, as this is another in a series of items and games that have been delayed until next year. State of Decay 2 and Rare"s Sea of Thieves were each pushed back at E3 this year, while Crackdown 3 was delayed until spring. At least they now have PlayerUnknown"s Battlegrounds.
