Microsoft"s OneNote app has been pushed into the limelight recently as Microsoft has been making the product available on nearly every mobile platform. The company is showing no signs of slowing down either as they are today announcing "major updates" for OneNote for Mac, OneNote for iPad and OneNote for iPhone.
Microsoft says that they are addressing the top requests that they received from customers since they released updates back in May. The updates for Mac include the following enhancements:
- OneDrive for Business: Create, open, edit, and sync OneDrive for Business notebooks alongside your personal OneDrive notebooks.
- Insert Files: Office documents, PDFs, video/audio files can be inserted into your notes, opened as read-only and saved for later.
- Protected Sections: Lock or unlock password-protected sections created in OneNote for Windows.
- PDF Printouts: Add a PDF printout to any page and then take notes on it in OneNote.
- Organize better: Move pages and sections around your notebooks to get them organized the way you want.
- Share a Page as Email: With HTML, formatting maintained.
Updates to OneNote for iOS are also quite significant, and include the following:
- Streamlined First Run Experience: Access your notebooks across OneDrive and OneDrive for Business faster with a prompt for Microsoft Account and Organizational Account.
- Insert Files: Office documents, PDFs, video/audio files can be inserted into your notes, opened with a double-tap, and shared with AirDrop.
- Protected Sections: Lock or unlock password-protected sections created in OneNote for Windows.
- PDF Printouts: Add a PDF printout to any page and then take notes on it in OneNote.
- Organize better: Move pages and sections around your notebooks to get them organized the way you want.
Based on the changes, you can see why Microsoft is referring to these updates as "major". Improvements across the entire platform for OneNote on Apple"s OS X and iOS will hopefully appease those users and further cement Microsoft"s commitment to producing quality software on any platform.
If you haven"t ever tried OneNote and find yourself using Word or Notepad to take notes during meetings or school, it"s worth checking it out as it is free and an easy way to organize your notes.
