Around the same time Microsoft launched its Surface 2 and Pro 2 tablets in the fall of 2013, it also introduced the $59.99 Surface Wireless Keyboard Adapter. The add-on allowed the Type and Touch Keyboard Covers for the tablets to be used from as far away as 30 feet. However, Microsoft has now confirmed that it is no longer making the adapter.
ZDNet reports that, according to a statement from a Microsoft spokesperson, "Due to a number of factors, we are no longer manufacturing the Surface Wireless Keyboard Adapter." There"s no word on what the specific reasons were for discontinuing the product. Even though Microsoft has stopped sales, a quick search of the Internet has revealed the adapter is still available for purchase from some third-party retail sites.
Microsoft has had some issues keeping other Surface accessories in stock on its retail website. That includes its recently launched $199.99 Surface Power Cover, which quickly went out of stock just a few days after it went on sale earlier this month. The Surface Docking Station has also been hard to get a hold of since it went on sale a few months ago.
