The second Tuesday of every month is called "Patch Tuesday" because that is the day on which Microsoft releases patches for its many different products. For those of you who own a Surface RT or a Pro 3, make sure to check Windows Update as there should be downloads for your device.
Starting with the Pro 3, Microsoft has pushed out a new driver for the Pen that enables new functionality for the Surface App found in the Windows Store; the app used to be called the Surface Hub. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not say what the new functionality is, but we will update this post once we understand what was added in this release. Below is the statement from Microsoft on the new functionality:
“The Surface Pen Settings driver update released today enables new functionality and features for the Surface app found in the Windows Store. In response to customer feedback submitted through the app, we have added additional levels of pen pressure sensitivity adjustment, allowing Surface Pro 3 customers the ability to further personalize the responsiveness of the pen. In addition, the Surface app now shows Surface Pro 3 firmware and driver information directly within the app.”
For those of you who are still rocking a Surface RT, there is an update available for you as well. Microsoft has released a new driver set that improves the audio and video experience for the device; these drivers should also help to boost stability as well.
You can update your machine right now to grab the latest bits but do let us know if you run into any issues. Further, if you are able to figure out what the new functionality is for the Surface Pen, make sure to let us know as well in the comments below.
