Last year, Microsoft introduced stocks, a cloud-connected data type in Excel, which provides an easy way to get information about a stock ticker like price, change, currency, and more, without having to leave the app to search outside sources. Today, the Redmond giant announced a new partnership with Nasdaq and financial markets data provider Refinitiv that expands the capabilities of the stocks data type.
Pulling real-time data from the two firms, Excel will allow you to seamlessly track the latest stock prices, trading volume, and other financial information. As part of the expansion, Excel also supports a wider range of data including bitcoin, bonds, international currencies, extended-hours pricing information, last trade times, and 52-week highs or lows.
Oliver Albers, Senior Vice President and Head of Strategic Partnerships for Nasdaq’s Global Information Services, said:
"Expanding the reach of real-time market data is essential to making markets more accessible. Our collaboration with Microsoft is a significant step towards bringing important market information to individual investors. Microsoft’s focus on empowering individuals aligns perfectly with our mission to make financial markets more inclusive."
The improved stocks data type is available now, with Microsoft promising that even more features are coming in the near future. The company says that Excel will soon have access to historical financial data, as well as automatic price updates every few minutes.
