Upload is Microsoft’s Xbox One feature that lets users upload game clips online where they can show off to their friends and followers. It’s a pretty nifty feature that’s relatively easy to use and many gamers are happily using it. But the company seems to have bigger plans for Upload.
That’s why a couple of nights ago Microsoft made some changes to Upload to make it more accessible and bring users new content. First up Upload which was until now limited to the Xbox One is now available both on the web and on Xbox 360 devices. By going to xbox.com/upload or downloading the 360 app users can now surf and watch all the uploaded clips.
Secondly Microsoft is bringing fresh content to Upload via a partnership with Node, a popular Youtube gaming channels. According to the announcement clips will be hosted first on Upload for the viewers’ enjoyment.
That’s it for the official announcement though Microsoft did say further updates are planned.
But now here’s a tiny bit of speculation: could this move be the company’s first step in creating a new content platform? One that could perhaps eventually compete with the likes of YouTube and Twitch for the gaming segment? It certainly looks possible as Microsoft has most of the pieces it needs already in place, but we’ll have to wait and see how the company moves forward before we can determine what its actual plans are.
