The anticipation for a refresh of Microsoft"s first party hardware is almost palpitating. After the recent launch of Windows 10, and the expected arrival of Windows 10 Mobile in the October/November timeframe, all eyes are now on the devices that Microsoft will use to showcase its new software platforms.
A new rumor by WPDang is now making the rounds on the internet, claiming that Microsoft is going to host a consolidated event to introduce its hardware refreshes to the world in October. This is mostly in line with the exclusive reveal by Brad Sams a few weeks ago.The list of devices expected at this event is long - and sure to please fans eagerly waiting for the next round of hardware to come out of Microsoft"s labs.
First off, we have the Surface Pro 4. It has been over a year now since the Surface Pro 3 was made available and the premium two-in-one from Microsoft is long overdue. While none of the specifications have been confirmed by Microsoft, it is quite likely that the fourth iteration of Microsoft"s vision for the future of computing will come with a Skylake processor and a refreshed keyboard. The Surface Pen might also see some improvements - and there is the very real possibility that the company will include Windows Hello-related hardware in the device, given that it is already expected to do so with its new flagship phones.
That brings us to Microsoft"s mobile offerings. The successor to the Lumia 930 has long been in the making and with Windows Mobile desperately in need of a flagship, Microsoft cannot disappoint. Leaks of the purported specifications of the devices certainly live up to expectations and, if true, will likely rejuvenate interest in Windows 10 Mobile.
The company is also expected to launch the Microsoft Band 2 at the same event. Given the initial success of the first, a refresh of the fitness wearable is all but a done deal. Not much is known about the device at this point but the company has reportedly already stopped production on the original so fans eagerly waiting for the new edition won"t be waiting for long.
While those are the major - and confirmed - launches at this event, the rumours don"t stop there. Sites are reporting that Microsoft might have a one or two surprise announcements in store, too. WPDang has pointed to a new (and possibly slimmer) Xbox One.
The event has, of course, not been confirmed by Microsoft but rest assured that Neowin will be watching.
