In May, a few weeks after unveiling its new Surface Laptop, Microsoft announced the new Surface Pro tablet - the successor to its Surface Pro 4, which it released in 2015. It also revealed a new version of the Surface Pen, with color options to match its latest Windows 10 devices.
Pre-orders opened in early June for the new $99.99 Surface Pen, but only in a single color: Platinum. Microsoft said in mid-July that the other colors - Burgundy, Black and Cobalt Blue - wouldn"t become available until later this summer.
Today, over two months after they were revealed, Microsoft has finally opened pre-orders for those three color options. In the United States, the Microsoft Store listing states that they"ll be released on August 21; in the UK, buyers will have to wait a bit longer, as deliveries aren"t due to begin until August 24.
Developed with Microsoft"s N-trig technology, the new Surface Pen includes tilt detection, 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, and just 21ms of latency, which prompted the company to declare it "the fastest digital pen on the planet" in May. Less than two weeks later, Apple announced that its new Pencil for the iPad Pro offers just 20ms of latency.
In addition to the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, Microsoft"s new Pen is also compatible with the Surface 3, Pro 3, Pro 4, Book and Studio.
