Yesterday, we reported that the latest update for the Skype Preview app was crashing on Windows 10 for both PC and Mobile. The problematic version was 11.10.146.0, and Microsoft has now pushed 11.10.147.0 to Insiders, fixing the issue.
According to the company, Windows Insiders were in fact the only ones that were affected by this issue, despite reports that we received from users who claim to have experienced it on the Production ring (non-Insiders). The Fast ring received the fix last night, and the Slow and Release Preview rings should have the update available right now.
Microsoft issued the following statement in the Skype Community:
We just published a fix in version 11.10.147 and you should be getting it shortly.
As to your question, this was only seen by users in the Windows Insider program. Although not ideal this situations can happen, we should always remember that at the end of the day there are humans building these apps
Luckily this issue was fixed fast and you and all of our users affected will be able to continue using Skype Preview.
We really appreciate your feedback and the fact that you took the time to report this issue, and we will work really hard so situations like this don"t happen again.
Happy Holidays from the Skype fam.
When asked how such an update to an app that people rely on is pushed, the company said, "Although not ideal this [sic] situations can happen, we should always remember that at the end of the day there are humans building these apps". Indeed, it wouldn"t be the first time that something worked in testing and then didn"t when it hit the Store, which in fairness, is why the Insider Program exists.
