Microsoft Flight Simulator returned in style last year, letting PC players take to the skies and roam the entire planet with stunning visuals. Xbox Series X|S consoles joined in on the fun earlier this year. Now, with multiple World Updates under its belt, the title is gaining a whole bunch of more content and being upgraded to Game of the Year status.
"This new edition celebrates all the positive feedback, reviews and awards garnered," Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann adds. "But it is also a "Thank You" to our fans – new and old – that have made Microsoft Flight Simulator such a phenomenon."
Kicking things off, the Flight Simulator GOTY Edition introduces the game"s first military jet the Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet, the eVTOL VoloCity, Pilatus PC-6 Porter, CubCrafters NX Cub, and Aviat Pitts Special S1S. With the Top Gun: Maverick expansion being pushed to next year, the jet"s arrival should be popular among fans.
Meanwhile, Helsinki (Finland), Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Brighton, Derby, Eastbourne, Newcastle, and Nottingham (UK) and Utrecht (Netherlands) are becoming photogrammetry using cities.
Eight handcrafted airports across the United States and Central Europe, as well as new missions across six locations, tutorials to expand new player onboarding, early access to DirectX 12, "a dev mode replay system", weather system updates, and more features are also incoming with the update.
The Microsoft Flight Simulator Game of the Year Edition will be launching for all PC and Xbox Series X|S players as a free upgrade on November 18, with it also replacing the current standard edition. On the same date, the previously announced Reno Air Races expansion pack will launch for the title.
