Earlier today, Microsoft updated its Wallet app for Windows 10 Mobile for Insiders on the Fast ring. Wallet 2.0 finally brings support for NFC tap to pay on Microsoft"s mobile platform.
The firm has now formally announced the feature, also publishing a video to show it off. The video seems to be set in a world where there are large gatherings of Windows 10 Mobile users.
In the announcement, Microsoft notes that the feature will initially be exclusive to the Microsoft Lumia 650, 950, and 950 XL in the United States. Presumably, American Express and Discover cards won"t work, as the feature was forged from a partnership with Visa and MasterCard.
The firm has also published a list of banks that support the feature. While the list will continually be updated, it currently includes Bank of America, First Tech Federal Credit Union, Virginia Credit Union, People"s United Bank, and BECU. Chase, US Bank, and Fifth Third Bank are noted as coming soon.
Wallet"s tap to pay feature will be supported anywhere that NFC payments are accepted, as well as anywhere that you see the Microsoft Wallet logo.
If you haven"t downloaded Wallet 2.0 just yet, you can grab it right here. Remember, you must be in the US and running build 14360 (build 14361 for those of us that actually get our builds from the Insider Program) or newer.
