Microsoft may be better known for its world headquarters in Redmond, Washington, but when the company was founded back in 1975, it operated out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 2006, a plaque was put in place at the location where Bill Gates, Paul Allen, and ten other people started up Microsoft. The company moved to its present location in 1979, in part because Microsoft was unable to recruit the people it needed to have to help run and grow the company in Albuquerque.
Now local news website KRQE.com is reporting that the plaque has been stolen from the Albuquerque location. Local police don"t seem to know who has taken the marker but it"s likely the culprit did it just so he or she could brag about taking the plaque.
Allen sent a message to the news site with his reaction to this theft, stating:
I’ve got great memories of working long hours in that office, and Bill and I were happy it was there as a way to thank the city of Albuquerque for its role in starting Microsoft. I can’t imagine why someone would want to steal it. If it doesn’t turn up, I’ll make sure it gets replaced and installed in a more secure fashion.
