Apple has been ripped one way and down the other for its own home grown iOS 6 map app that launched just a week ago. The data errors, and sometime laughable map images, have caused both Nokia and Google (via Motorola) to slam Apple"s first attempt at a mobile mapping app.
Today, Microsoft"s Bing blog posted up a new entry (we like to think they read our recommendation) which reminds people who have bought a new iPhone that their own Bing app, with mapping features, is available to download from the iOS App Store. However, while Nokia and Google went for the jugular, Microsoft takes a more gentle approach:
For years we’ve put a lot of work into helping people find what they need so they can get more done. With the Bing App for iPhone, we can help you find what you need and help you get there – whether it’s down the street, on the other side of the world, or somewhere in between. We make it easy, too. Just tell Bing what you are looking for with voice-activated search - even addresses- when you need to be hands-free, and let Bing do the rest.
As we mentioned a few days earlier, the Bing iOS app has not been updated since April 30th. When we emailed Microsoft to find out if they have plans to release a new version, their response was simply, "We don’t have anything to share about future plans or updates."
