Microsoft giving away 1 million Microsoft points

Earlier this month, Microsoft did away with its GamesForWindows.com store front and moved its PC game download store over to a page on its Xbox.com web site. Its been a couple of weeks since this change has happened but today Microsoft is giving folks an incentive to try out the new Xbox.com PC game download store. The web site has announced a special promotion that will see Microsoft give away a total of 1 million of its in-house Microsoft points.

It"s pretty simple for PC gamers to get their hands on a small part of the Microsoft points bounty. All they have to do is purchase and download any PC game from the new Xbox.com based Games For Windows Marketplace web page and they can get 400 Microsoft points via an e-coupon. The promotion begins today and ends on August 1 and is limited to the first 2,500 people who purchase a PC game on the site. The e-coupon will be sent to the user in about 4 to 6 weeks. The 400 Microsoft points must be used by June 30, 2012.

PC gamers can use Microsoft points to download and purchase DLC items in Games For Windows Live titles and if they also own an Xbox 360, they can use the points to download full Xbox Live Arcade games, DLC items for retail games, movie rental/purchases and more for the console. The points can also be used for Zune downloadable items; 400 Microsoft points is the equivalent to $5.
