This Sunday, Microsoft will officially unveil its new Project Scorpio console at E3 2017, streaming its briefing at the gaming expo in 4K resolution for the first time. The company revealed key details about the console in April, including its octa-core processor, and 12GB of GDDR5 RAM.
Initially, Microsoft said that 8GB of Scorpio"s RAM would be available for gaming, with the remaining 4GB dedicated to running the Dashboard, and other system tasks, ensuring smooth operation for all activities on the console. But today, Microsoft gaming chief Mike Ybarra revealed that the firm has "unlocked" an extra gigabyte of RAM for gaming:
Developers will now be able to create games that make use of 9GB of RAM on the monstrous new machine, which Microsoft describes as the "most powerful console ever". Ybarra said that where games don"t use the full 9GB, "the rest of the RAM will be used as a cache (making things load way faster, etc.)".
In recent days, Microsoft has been teasing Scorpio"s upcoming launch with a series of videos, including one that might hint at the console"s release date.
