Microsoft today introduced a number of new bots for Skype today. Bots for the service were originally announced at the company"s Build 2016 developer conference and the feature has been in preview.
If you"re a Trekkie (like we are), you"ll be interested in the new Spock bot. Sadly, you"ll notice from the screenshot above that Spock likes to keep to himself.
According to Microsoft, there are over 30,000 developers working on Skype bots and "thousands of developers are able to share their bot through a Skype join link directly on their website." This is impressive, given that the feature was only announced a few months ago.
There are a couple of new travel bots: Skyscanner and Hipmunk. Skyscanner will allow you to search flights "either individually or as part of a group, returning live prices and route options within Skype, based on location suggestions like “Paris in July” or “Spain.”"
Other businesses have published bots as well. StubHub will help you to buy tickets, and IFTTT will "keep you informed with automated messages from the apps, devices, and websites you love based on the triggers of your choice, including breaking news, the weather, social media notifications, someone at your door, and more."
You can check out all of the Skype bots available right here. The list doesn"t seem to be in any particular order, as IFTTT is listed below Murphy, which was one of the original bots.
