Earlier this week, preorders for the HoloLens Developer Edition started up, with the devices shipping on March 30. Microsoft also released some development tools and an emulator for those that can"t afford the $3,000 price tag.
Microsoft is also releasing a series of videos to help you get started making your application for Windows Holographic. Here"s the first one:
Windows Holographic is the version of Windows 10 that powers the HoloLens. Since it"s a version of Windows that can be licensed by OEMs, other firms will be able to make their own versions of HoloLens.
This is the start of a brand new world of coding for developers. Every single app you make for Windows Holographic will probably include something no one else has ever seen before. Programming holograms, after all, is new to everyone. And someday, you’ll be able to look back and tell people that you were there at the very beginning, building some of the very first mixed reality apps.
The firm notes that there"s still time before all of the tools become available. Developers should use that time to get themselves acquainted with building 3D applications.
Nevertheless, developers can get started right now with the HoloLens APIs using Visual Studio 2015.
