Since the days of Windows 8, Microsoft has slowly but surely been working on killing off the Control Panel, adding more and more functionality to a dedicated Settings app. The company has been continuing that effort throughout its Redstone 4 development, and today, Thurrott is reporting that there"s going to be a Fonts page in Settings.
As you"d expect, you can manage a certain font by clicking on it, similar to how you"d manage an app from Settings. On that page, you"ll be given the option to uninstall it, and you can also preview the font in different sizes and styles. At the bottom of the page, you"ll find the font"s metadata, such as its file name, version, manufacturer, and so on.
You"ll also be able to download new fonts from the Microsoft Store. This is something that we"ve known is coming for a couple months.
Ultimately, this is all a logical next step for managing fonts in the modern Windows 10 user interface. Obviously, the goal is going to be to eventually offer no reason for anyone to go to the Control Panel at all, and then kill off the feature. In the current feature update to Windows 10, the Fall Creators Update or version 1709, the Control Panel has already been removed from the pop-up menu that you see when right-clicking on the Start Button, although you can still find it under Windows System, or through the Search bar.
