In October, the Microsoft Store slashed a third off the price of AT&T"s Lumia 640 XL, reducing it from $149.99 to $99.99. At that price, it didn"t take long for the handset to sell out, and it"s been out of stock on the store for the last few weeks.
But now, the AT&T-locked model of the Lumia 640 XL is once again available to buy from the Microsoft Store for $99.99. The supersized Windows Phone is available in either black or white.
The 640 XL"s key specs include:
- 5.7-inch ClearBlack IPS LCD with HD (1280x720px) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3
- Quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
- 1GB RAM
- 8GB onboard storage (plus microSD support up to 128GB)
- Backside illuminated 13MP rear camera with ZEISS optics, LED flash and 1080p video recording
- 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens and 1080p video recording
- 4G LTE connectivity
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- Bluetooth 4.0
- NFC
- Ambient light sensor, accelerometer, proximity sensor, magnetometer and SensorCore
- Replaceable 3000mAh battery
- 157.9 x 81.5 x 9mm; 171g
But if you"re thinking of buying the AT&T Lumia 640 XL, don"t rush over to the Microsoft Store just yet. If you don"t mind getting the black model - and considering it has a removable rear cover so you can change the color later, that shouldn"t really be an issue - you can currently get exactly the same handset elsewhere for just $69.99.
If you"re not so keen on being tied down to AT&T, Microsoft has also replenished its stock of the unlocked Lumia 640 XL, which is now available for $149, although it"s only available in white.
Whether unlocked or on AT&T, the Lumia 640 XL ships with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 onboard, but it is eligible for an official Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, including the latest Anniversary Update. The AT&T model finally received the Anniversary Update last month, over seven months after Microsoft began rolling it out.

Curiously, Microsoft is also selling the AT&T variant of the Lumia 950 again. The carrier has continued to sell the device without interruption, but as with the 640 XL, the Microsoft Store was showing it as out of stock for several weeks. It"s now available there in either black or white for $298.99 with no contract.
