Microsoft is building in tech support directly into Windows 10

If you have ever had an issue with your PC, odds are you likely went to your favorite search engine and started looking for a solution or you called up that tech savvy friend of yours. Microsoft is looking to change this behavior in Windows 10 and we can start to see their new solution coming together.

Earlier today, Microsoft released a new build of Windows 10 and with it comes an app called "Contact Support". As the name implies, this is a new channel for searching how to fix your PC or to resolve billing issues.

There are three options to choose from after you open the app: My device, Microsoft account and billing, and Microsoft online services.

When you click on My Device, you can search the community forums, chat with a Microsoft Answer Tech, or even have Microsoft call you. Conveniently, Microsoft even lists the wait time if you decide to have someone reach out to you.

If you are having billing issues, the app directs you to the Microsoft web portal where you can find the correct area to make changes to your subscriptions.

Finally, there is an area for online service support for Skype, OneDrive, Office 365 etc; it has the same options as the My Device area.

This simple app will go a long way for the platform as it gives inexperienced users a channel for troubleshooting their own issues from within Windows 10. With multiple options to troubleshoot basic issues, including having someone call you, this may mitigate a few panicked phone calls to other tech support channels from older users who are having trouble with PC basics in Windows 10.

If you have downloaded the new build of Windows 10, you can try out the new app now; look for it under "All apps". If you happen to find anything else new in this build, make sure to send us a tip.

Thanks for the tip Andrew!
