Microsoft is giving Cortana and Bing some handy (and spooky...) additions for Halloween

Microsoft is going all out this year on Halloween through its Bing and Cortana search services, with some fun and spooky searches, and various Easter eggs available. Cortana has a variety of custom costume ideas, Bing Maps has been updated with the Bing Spooky Map experience, and the Bing homepage has a new Haunting Homepage planned for Halloween.

The Cortana costume ideas can be accessed by simply asking Cortana “What should I wear for Halloween?”. This will bring up a fun suggestion along with a gateway into a Halloween costume portal that Bing has put together for the occasion, with popular costume ideas already organized.

Bing has also put together a number of popular searches, with pumpkin carving suggestions, holiday-themed treats, and scary movies all lined up to help you plan the perfectHalloween-themed evening. There is also a scary movie guessing game that can be accessed with the phrase "guess the horror movie."

The Bing Spooky Map experience incorporates both a “frighteningly fun color palate” and new Halloween-themed icons. Bing has also added a curated list of haunted houses around Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom for help with planning an evening out.

The Haunting Homepage is set to go active on Halloween, October 31st, but until then you can grab a preview of the changes here on Friday if that’s your cup of tea.

Taken as a whole, the subtle changes to Bing and Cortana should enhance the holiday experience for their users, and help them to make this Halloween a fright to remember...
