Microsoft is rebranding UI Fabric to Fluent UI

Microsoft has announced that it"s rebranding UI Fabric to Fluent UI, in an effort to provide continuity between its design systems. It"s going to reflect the convergence of Fabric and Stardust, which it says are its two most-used web engineering frameworks.

The two frameworks are going to be merged in GitHub, obviously under the Fluent UI banner. Even though those two things are being combined under a new name, developers won"t need to rename their package imports in their apps. What"s actually going to happen is that UI Fabric packages will still be released, and there will be new ones under the Fluent UI alias.

In fact, from a developer and usability perspective, it seems like nothing is changing, or at least there"s no action that developers need to take at this time. In an FAQ, Microsoft even said that you won"t need to re-clone the repo, as it will be redirected.

All of these changes are happening on GitHub, and they should show up soon. Microsoft says that this is the first step toward a simplified developer ecosystem.
