Microsoft is reportedly investing in Uber at $50bn valuation

Global ride-hailing app Uber has been busy with its latest round of funding, which has valued the company at over $50 billion - and Microsoft is reportedly among its latest investors.

The new funding round raised a further $1 billion for Uber, and The New York Times claims that "Microsoft has agreed to contribute a substantial amount of the financing", citing unnamed sources. Microsoft"s part in this latest funding round was first reported by The Wall Street Journal, although despite confirming details of the investment, Bloomberg said that the deal hasn"t yet been finalized.

Microsoft has refused to comment so far, and Uber has only acknowledged the funding round itself, but isn"t commenting on specific investors.

Microsoft and Uber have certainly been getting cozy together in recent months. Uber integrated its service into Outlook in May, including Cortana support. More significantly, in June, Microsoft transferred around 100 of its employees to Uber, alongside a sale of some of its Bing mapping technology to the ride-hailing firm.
