Ever since the launch of Windows Phone 7 in October 2010, Microsoft has offered up major updates to its mobile OS on a yearly basis. Recently, rumors hit the Internet that the next major Windows Phone version, under the code name Windows Phone Blue, might not be released until sometime in 2014.
While that may turn out to be the case, Microsoft is still publicly aiming for a major Windows Phone update sometime before the end of 2013. That"s according to a recent job listing on the company"s careers page which is looking for a software engineer to join the team.
The job listing states:
This is a great time to join as we’re completing our current release are getting ready for our next release targeting the holiday of this year and we’re chartered with keeping the momentum for Windows Phone by bringing new killer devices and delightful user experiences.
Microsoft most likely wants to stick with its fall season update cycle for major Windows Phone software upgrades in order to get new devices from its hardware partners out in time for the critical holiday shopping period. The big question: what new features will be added to the OS at that time? At the moment, the only thing we know for sure is that Microsoft wants to have future Windows Phone apps work with Windows 8, and vice versa, with no extra effort needed to port apps from one OS to another.
