Microsoft launches Photosynth for Windows Phone

Microsoft"s Windows Phone platform has seen a number of new app launches of late, and Microsoft just released one of the most unique apps itself. Yesterday the company added its Photosynth app to the Windows Phone marketplace, which will allow users to create "majestic 3D panoramas from individual 2D shots," according to an entry on the company"s Windows Phone blog.

The blog post claims the new app is the only mobile panoramic application that can create a full panoramic sphere – a 360-degree vertical and horizontal panorama. Photosynth allows users to easily create "synths" that can be published to the program"s website or shared to social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. Photosynth can currently be downloaded free of charge on the Windows Phone marketplace. The app requires a Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) or newer device and comes in at 1MB. The integrated Photosynth.net panorama sharing service is also available free of charge. The app"s marketplace entry states users can also publish their panoramas to Bing and Bing Maps.

In addition to Photosynth, May has been a strong month for Windows Phone apps. Facebook"s app received a substantial update earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal Live app was released, Time magazine launched its first app and the first official LinkedIn app was released for the platform.
