The Windows Club is reporting that Microsoft has launched a new service entitled The Collection. This website has been designed to help users choose which type of Windows powered computer to purchase, from netbooks to gaming machines under the categories Everyday, Mobile Companion, Professional, Entertainment and lastly, Gaming.
"There has never been a more exciting time to buy a new PC. Now you can experience the full power of the web with Internet Explorer 9, choose from a wide range models in style, size and colour to suit your lifestyle. With touch screens and tablets that let you get even closer to your content. Whatever you’re looking for in a PC, you’ll find it in The Collection, from Windows."
Once a user has selected one of the five aforementioned categories, they are taken to a new page with suggested models from country specific manufacturers, for the United Kingdom the selection for "Everyday" machines is Acer, Dell. HP, Packard Bell, Toshiba and Sony. When a specific model is chosen the user is presented with detailed specifications, a short sentence about why Microsoft "love this PC" and links to at least three stores where the product can be purchased. It also seems that no kind of affiliate system is in place for the links meaning the choices and retailers should remain neutral.
This is a new move for Microsoft aiming to clear up some confusion over which type machines are available for a specific purpose and budget, however it remains to be seen how popular this service will be. If you would like Microsoft to recommend a computer for you click here (UK link).
