Microsoft launches YouthSpark Challenge for Change contest

In April, Microsoft announced the winners of its Windows 8 Apps For Social Good contest, honoring apps made for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 that were made to help others rather than just to make money. Today, the company announced yet another contest that centers on the social good theme.

It"s called the YouthSpark Challenge for Change, which asks U.S. residents from 18 to 25 years of age to use Microsoft products such as Windows and Office as part of a project proposal designed to help people and communities.

The Microsoft Corporate Citizenship Blog has the details on the contest, which begins today. Entries will be taken until May 24th. Judges will go over the entries and name 20 finalists on June 17th; those finalists will each receive a Surface RT tablet. The public will then vote online for which of the 20 finalists should win one of the five grand prize packages from June 17th to June 24th.

The five grand finalists will be named July 1st and will each receive a trip to Kenya, along with a Microsoft technology product bundle, which will include a Windows Phone device and an Xbox 360 with Kinect. More importantly, each grand prize winner will receive $2,500 to help start their project and have a chance to become a YouthSpark ambassador for Microsoft for a year.
