Over the weekend, we learned that Microsoft was planning to cut 700 jobs, as part of a year-long plan to lay off a total of 2,850 employees. Today, it seems as though the job cuts have begun, as Bryan Roper tweeted that he is among those affected.
The news is certainly saddening, as it is when anyone loses their job. Roper was and still is beloved by the Windows fan-base though. He became renowned for his demos, where he was "productive like a boss" and wore his trademark fedora.
This isn"t the first time in recent history that Microsoft employees have suffered through a round of layoffs. Two and a half years ago, the firm laid off 18,000 employees shortly after its Nokia acquisition, and that was followed by various other series of terminations until most of what was Nokia was gone.
Microsoft hasn"t issued any official statements just yet regarding how many jobs have been lost, or anything else related to this. We"ve reached out to the company for comment.
