Microsoft makes a new addition to its Surface Pro 3 range

Microsoft"s Surface Pro 3 tablet is now over a year old, after being unveiled last April, shortly before going on sale on June 20, 2014. That means we"re now firmly in the right timeframe to be discussing its replacement - but while Microsoft isn"t yet ready to talk about a possible "Surface Pro 4", the company has now made a new addition to its existing Pro 3 range.

Until now, the Surface Pro 3 line-up has consisted of five models:

  • Intel Core i3 / 64GB / 4GB RAM | $799
  • Intel Core i5 / 128GB / 4GB RAM | $999
  • Intel Core i5 / 256GB / 8GB RAM | $1299
  • Intel Core i7 / 256GB / 8GB RAM | $1549
  • Intel Core i7 / 512GB / 8GB RAM | $1999

While none of these prices have changed, Microsoft has added a sixth model, at the same price as its current mid-ranger. Priced at $1299, the new configuration is essentially an "entry level" Core i7 model - it still has 8GB RAM, but only 128GB of storage.

Aside from that, the new model is identical to the old one - be sure to check out our full review of the Surface Pro 3 if you"re thinking of buying one.
