Microsoft is making some deals to beef up its Windows Phone 8 services just a few weeks before its next mobile OS launches. Today, it was revealed that Microsoft has made a deal with Mimvi, which will include the Sunnyvale, California company creating "a number of products and services to complement Microsoft"s Windows Azure and Windows Mobile 8 Platforms" (we assume they mean Windows Phone 8).
In return, Microsoft will be making its own investments into Mimvi, including " ... engineering services, software, and cash." The specific financial details were not announced.
In August, Microsoft announced the launch of its Windows Azure Mobile Services division. Microsoft said it would allow app developers to add Windows Azure support for their Windows 8 apps. That sounds a little bit like what Mimvi already offers its customers. In the press release today, Mimvi says, "Its proprietary search and "intelligent" recommendation algorithms enable the search and discovery of Mobile Apps, Mobile Content and Mobile Products across multiple devices and platforms."
It"s possible that Mimvi could work with Microsoft on a new way to search for apps for both Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 with Mimvi"s software and technology.
