"Microsoft Lumia with Windows 10 Trial", may be the name of a new marketing campaign found in two anonymously leaked documents to long-time Microsoft watcher Paul Thurrott. He says the two "very-detailed, multipage PDF files" appear genuine and offer "tantalizing information".
Each document contains a separate but similar campaign to convince businesses to switch to Windows 10 Mobile handsets. High-end, premium packaging will be targeted at enterprise customers and more modest mid-range packaging towards small-to-medium sized businesses. The premium packaging will include a Windows-branded briefcase-style travel bag:
[The packaging will] protect the devices while in transit, showcase the devices in their best light, reinforce the idea that Microsoft Lumia devices are the best choice for business, and show how easy the devices are to set up, integrate and deploy.”
Inside the bag there will be internal removable compartments to house the included Windows phone, Windows phablet and a Surface Pro tablet and introductory materials.
The mid-range packaging will not include the travel bag or the Surface Pro. Instead small-to-medium sized business customers will be offered interchangeable stackable boxes with Lumia-branded Windows phones and phablets inside.
It is not clear when the "Microsoft Lumia with Windows 10 Trial" will begin, how it will work or if it is in fact real. Yet despite numerous typos and misspellings in the two documents, Thurrott thinks it may be legitimate.
It’s hard to imagine anyone going to the trouble of mocking up something this elaborate, twice. And since this packaging would only be seen by potential Microsoft business customers, it’s not clear what the fallout is here. None of this could happen, even if it is real.
With the Surface Pro 4 and new Lumia flagships due on October 6 – we may find out if the leaks are real very soon.
