Microsoft revealed the new policies for the Windows Phone Marketplace earlier today.
As part of the policy (PDF) there"s an interesting section headed Adult Related Content:
- Sex / Nudity – Images that are suggestive or sexual (e.g. sexually provocative touching, bondage, masturbation) or provocative images that reveal nipples, genitals, buttocks, or pubic hair.
- Any adult and/or borderline adult content (images or text).
- Content that generally falls under the category of pornography.
- Content that depicts or suggests prostitution.
- Any content depicting sexual fetishes.
- Any content of a sexual nature depicting children or animals.
We"re not sure if this Adult Related Content policy existed for the Windows Mobile 6.x marketplace and we"re seeking to clarify that with Microsoft officials. The updated policy makes it clear that no pornographic applications will be allowed on Windows Phone 7 devices. As Windows Phone 7 will only allow applications onto the device via the marketplace (unless you"re a developer) then it"s a safe bet that Microsoft is taking the same stance that Apple has for its iPhone App Store - no porn allowed.
