When the "Mango" update for Windows Phone 7 based owners is officially released later this fall, it will be available for all phones that already have Microsoft"s latest version of its mobile phone operating system. However, some clever folks have come up with a way to install a beta version of Mango into the HTC HD2, a phone that is supposed to run on the previous version of the OS, Windows Phone 6.5.
The creators of this hack has posted up how they accomplished this feat via You Tube which you can see below. You might think that Microsoft might not like it that the beta version of Mango is being forced into a phone that"s not designed to use many of its features. However that"s not the case, according to a story at AllThingsDigital.com. When asked about the HTC HD2 Mango hack a Microsoft spokesperson stated, "We say tinker away with Mango and enjoy the juice. But beware the fine print — unlocking phones may void your warranty." That is indeed true, but if this Mango update works as the creators in the video claim it does, we doubt that many owners of the HTC HD2 would complain all that much.
The real version of the Mango update will have a number of major new features and improvements over the last version of Windows Phone 7 including better support for gaming and media, a better version of Internet Explorer, the ability to multitask and more. It"s scheduled to be released sometime this Fall.
