As the rise of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues, companies all over the world have had to take significant measures in their attempt to mitigate its spread. This has understandably included a bunch of event cancellations and delays. Earlier this month, Microsoft had to postpone the Minecraft Festival that was scheduled to be held later this year.
More and more countries have closed educational institutions temporarily and have instructed people, including increasing amounts of children, to stay at their homes. Now, in an effort to provide these children some source of enjoyment as well as a chance to learn, Microsoft has made a bunch of education-centered content free in the Minecraft Marketplace.
Content that has been made free arrives under a new "Education" category. It includes popular lesson plans from the Minecraft: Education Edition, along with ten different worlds from the Marketplace"s creator community. The former aim to explain some interesting concepts through exploration of places as vast as the International Space Station and as minute as the human eye. The latter, meanwhile, are introduced in the form of lessons on renewable energy, marine biology, Greek history, and more. Notably, such worlds and lesson plans are often added to Minecraft: Education Edition.
The free content is available on all Minecraft for Bedrock platforms and can be obtained through the in-game store. The free download offer will run through June 30, though it is possible that Microsoft may end up extending this deadline if the situation surrounding the coronavirus hasn"t gotten better by then.
