Microsoft"s been making a lot of announcements about the Xbox One today, including its list of third party entertainment apps. One of the apps that Microsoft created in-house for the next-gen console is Skype and today the company announced a nice extra tied into the chat app for Xbox One owners who sign up for the paid Xbox Live Gold Service.
The Skype blog has announced that those users will be able to get 100 free minutes per month on Skype for calls to mobile and landline phone numbers in over 50 countries for six months. It also offers free group video calling on Skype for the same time period. The offer must be redeemed by March 31, 2014. A full list of the countries that are covered by the offer, along with other terms and conditions, can be found on the Skype website.
The blog post also goes over the many features of Skype on the Xbox One, including its Snap mode where people can play games or watch video while chatting at the same time. Skype notifications will also pop up on screen when a call comes in while an Xbox One user in the middle of a game. The Skype app will support video calls up to 1080p for those TVs that have that high of a display resolution.
