Microsoft offically launches new Windows Store and Xbox Gift Cards

While retailers like Amazon have been taking pre-orders for Microsoft"s new Windows Gift Cards for a few weeks now, today was the first day that the company stated that it will be selling such cards as part of the Windows 8.1 launch. At the same time, Amazon finally revealed what the cards look like close up, along with the reveal of the revamped Xbox Gift Card.

Amazon"s page shows the $15, $25 and $50 versions of the Windows Gift Card for the first time. In an email press release sent to Neowin, Microsoft stated:

Windows Store Gift Cards are a new way to buy apps, games and more in the Windows Store on Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8.1 in addition to select Xbox stores. Consumers can purchase Windows Store Gift Cards as digital codes online and at more than 100 top PC retailers in 25 countries starting this Holiday.

In addition, Amazon and the Microsoft Store are taking orders for the revamped Xbox Gift Card which is designed to be used to purchase content via the the Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles. The company ditched its confusing Microsoft Points system in favor of real currency earlier this year. In an odd move, Amazon is charging $32.05 for a $25 Xbox Gift Card, and $60.07 for a $50 gift card. We assume this is a price mistake on Amazon"s part.

Speaking of gift cards, Polygon reports that people will soon be able to dump their old pennies in a Coinstar kiosk and get codes or cards for both Xbox Live and Windows Store use.
