Microsoft Office and SharePoint Store expands to 22 new markets

The launch of Office 2013 and Office 365 Home Premium in January was also the official debut of the Office Store, where app developers could release third party software designed to work with Office applications as well as SharePoint. Today, Microsoft announced an expansion of the Office and SharePoint Store to other parts of the world.

As part of its Worldwide Partner Conference announcements, Microsoft stated that the Office and SharePoint Store has now expanded to include 22 new markets. Before now, the store was only limited to the US market. It added that apps made for the store can now be localized for French, German, Spanish and Japanese languages.

The company did not give a list of the new markets in its announcements. However, we contacted the company and got the full list:

  • Australia
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • India
  • Ireland
  • New Zealand
  • Singapore
  • South Africa
  • Belgium
  • Switzerland
  • Germany
  • Austria
  • Japan
  • Spain
  • Mexico
  • Argentina

Some of those countries have multiple languages supported, hence the "22 markets" listed by Microsoft.

Microsoft also said today there are now "hundreds" of apps available for download in the Office and SharePoint Store "from well-known ISVs to individual developers and start-ups." In January, Microsoft said there were over 200 apps available. Since its launch, there have been nearly one million app downloads from the store.
