It"s been over seven months since Microsoft announced that its suite of Office apps are coming to the Mac App Store. Now, it seems like it"s finally happening. Alexandre Piveteau posted the above image on Twitter today, showing that Apple is already promoting the suite of apps.
Microsoft has also started posting support documentation for the product. There"s a new page for Office activation on apps from the Mac App Store. It pretty much says to sign in with your Microsoft account that has an Office 365 subscription, and if you have a perpetual license, you have to uninstall the apps and reinstall the products you own from the web.
Obviously, you don"t need an Office 365 subscription to download the apps; the apps are free. It works the same as it does on Windows 10. You need to activate Office, or you"ll only be able to read documents; you won"t be able to edit them.
We"ve reached out to Microsoft for a statement regarding a more specific date when this will be available. Presumably, there will be an announcement about it very soon.
Update: The apps are now live in the Mac App Store.
