Microsoft officially announces Office 365 University

Students at colleges and universities will soon gain access to a new version of Office 365 marketed especially for them. The company announced plans to launch Office 365 University and that it will be made available in the first quarter of 2013.

In a post on the Office Next blog, Microsoft says that Office 365 University will be sold to eligible full and part-time university and college students, along with faculty and staff members. it will include the new versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Access. It will also automatically save any documents to a user"s SkyDrive account, which will have a total of 27 GB of free storage space for all Office 365 University members. It also includes 60 world minutes for Skype calls per month. Office 365 University will allow for up to two PC/Mac installations per user.

Pricing for a four year subscription to Office 365 University will be $79.99. If graduating from college takes more than four years, students can renew their Office 365 University subscription for an additional four years. The blog post added, "Starting today, eligible students can buy Office University 2010 or Office University for Mac 2011 and receive a free subscription to Office 365 University when it becomes available."
